Yes guys, that is not a typo. 12,000 died and 18,000 are still missing due to a quake that shook Dujiangyan China. Story after the jump.
The official Xinhua News Agency said the death toll exceeded 12,000 in Sichuan province alone, and 18,645 were still buried in debris in the city of Mianyang, near the epicenter of Monday's massive, 7.9-magnitude quake.
The Sichuan Daily newspaper reported on its Web site that more than 26,000 people were injured in Mianyang.
The numbers of casualties was expected to rise due to the remoteness of the areas affected by the quake and difficulty in finding buried victims.
The quake was China's deadliest since 1976, when 240,000 people were killed in the city of Tangshan, near Beijing in 1976. Financial analysts said the quake would have only a limited impact on the country's booming economy.
First of all, Congratulations for a job well done!
Today you walked the steps of PICC not as AMA students anymore but AMA graduates. You are now part of the alumni family and I am deeply honored to be with you guys. The same people whom I shared my happy moments and sad experiences. Yesterday you were my students and now you are my colleagues. May you remember this day and be proud of it for the rest of your life. As I said before, even though we are miles apart, our hearts will eliminate that distance. once again, Congratulations and may you have a fruitful future.
It's my third contract at Informatics International College and it's the start of a new school year for freshmen! New friends, new love interests (joke!) BTW, my buddy is pregnant! What great news! If you're an IICQC student, you know who my buddy is hehehe.
Ok, some of my friends asked me why am I not updating my site every day. Honestly guys, I'd rather be quiet than post a non-informative, biased, nonsense entry, like "Hey, I brushed my teeth today! uber coolness!" and, "Hey! My life sucks!" Anyway, I'm into quality rather than quantity of posts. So if my visitors wanted a daily update and all I can give them is a doze of my boring, uneventful, generic, mediocre life. But hey, thanks for visiting! Anyway, wanna know what I ate for breakfast? No? I thought so.
IEEE 802.11 also known as Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) is a technology being taken for granted by people these days. I still remember rhe time where a "hotspot" is like an oasis for us net surfers, but that is now a thing of the past. More and more establishments today are jumping on the WiFi bandwagon. The former "exclusive" to Starbucks Coffee is now being used by other establishments. SM North Edsa is one big hotspot. But the connection needs a prepaid card to be purchased on their information Counter. Glorietta 4 also is a hotspot, but it needs purchasing as well. Enough with the colossal ones, food chains nowadays also provide WiFi. Jollibee offers free connection...for now. Burger King also gives a free connection and heck even let you plug your gadget on their outlet or charger provided. Schools also brag that their campuses are WiFi enabled, like AMA Computer University and Informatics International College. One establishment though gave me the creeps. That is St. Peter's Memorial Chapel providing WiFi for the dead...err for their departed love ones. While mourning, you can access You Tube and watch Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital Scandal.
So as I observe the "majority" using these technology exclusive before to us geeks, they waste the bandwidth on checking their Friendster profile, uploading their korny You Tube videos and chatting over Yahoo Messenger, heck even order a small size drink at Starbucks just to "show-off" their laptop they don't even know how to fix. I know I know before some of my readers react, yeah they have the right to browse wherever they please, but as far as I remember, WiFi is used before by businessmen sending that crucial report or submitting that important data via email. Oh well, can't blame those people who doesn't have an internet at home but has a laptop and leech out the net on a hotspot. The price for technological advancement is steep.
I was strolling on SM San Lazaro today with my students and I came across a store named after or the same as the leading site for game information named GameFAQS. Now, why would I name my shop as GameFAQS wherein FAQS means Frequently Asked Questions?
After I successfully converted an original Sony PSP firmware into a custom firmware, dding some games and tweaking the settings, they dubbed me as the walking Greenhills hahaha. Greenhills BTW is the place to find cheap stuff and services like unlocking a cellphone, psp downgrading/upgrading and stuff like that
Three lovely ladies from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) namely, Istara Bon Gundry,Katrina Lugartos and Ashley Fruno walked around Quipao wearing lettuce bikinis. I want to pour some thousand island sauce on them and...errr..
I didn't go to work today so I had a chance to go on an adventure. I wanted to go to the gym and Tristan suggested that we try Fitness First MoA (Mall of Asia). and this entry my friend, is the things I saw with my very own eyes during the adventure. Here we go:
Lookie here! It's my alma mater's / former work's advertisement! Sarah Geronimo is teh bomb! Really, innocent looking and all...err..let's continue.
Finally I arrived at Fitness First MoA branch. All I can say is, it is waaay better than the one on The Block. Admit it, Fitness First The Block's name should be changed to Business First. Almost a year ago, I enjoyed exercising there, but now, lot's and lot's of member everywhere! Maybe I should relocate to MoA?
It's Buddha'a birthday today! uber coolness! and not just that! They even have a mascot of Buddha himself! Why can't we have a mascot of Jesus?
(just zoom-in BTW, camphone only!)
We headed back to Trinoma to watch The Forbidden Kingdom, coz it's a lot cheaper to watch in Trinoma..'nuff said. You can read my review here.
Yes look at these two boys here! look how happy they are!
When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end, The goddess descends from the sky
Wings of light and dark spread afar, She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting.. Act I:
Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess We seek it thus, and take to the sky. Ripples form on the water's surface The wandering soul knows no rest.
Act II:
My Friend, your desire Is the bringer of life, the gift of the goddess. Legend shall speak of sacrifice at worlds end. The wind sails over the water's surface Quietly, but surely...
Act III:
As the war sends the world hurtling towards destruction The prisoner departs with his newfound love And embarks on a new journey.
He is guided by hope that the gift will bring bliss And the oath that he swore to his friends.
Though no oath is shared between the lovers, In thier hearts they know they will meet again.
Act IV:
There is no hate, only joy For you are beloved by the goddess. Hero of the Dawn, Healer of Worlds.
Three friends go into battle One is captured, One flies away, the one that is left becomes a hero. If we were to enact it, would I be the one to play the hero, Or would You? Indeed After all, your glory should have been mine.
My Friend, the fates are cruel There are no dreams, no honour remains. The arrow has left the bow of the goddess.
My Soul corrupted by vengeance, Hath endures torment, To find the end of the journey in my own salvation. And Your eternal slumber.
Now what i want most... is the 'Gift of the Goddess'...
Act V:
Dreams of the morrow hath shattered soul Pride is Lost. Wings stripped away, the end is nigh Such is... the fate of a monster.
Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return. If this world seeks my destruction... ... It goes with Me
Special Act:
Even if the morrow is barren of promises, Nothing shall fortell my return To become the dew that quenches the land, To spare the sands, the seas, the skies I offer thee this silent sacrifice
I had a weird dream last night about my best friend. It's weird because I haven't thought of her for a while now and suddenly she pops out of my dream. Here' how the dream goes: I was hanging around a place I am not familiar with. It is an open area with a cemented flooring. I was sitting on a cemented bench (much like those found on my high school catwalk, but not quite) So anyway, someone approached me as I was lingering on my thoughts, and guess what? It was my best friend who went to Saudi last February. She came back, and I was happy to see her and I was having the best time of my life. Then someone texted me and I was distracted for a second and just that my best friend's gone beside me. I went looking for her and found her talking to the person I loved before...her close friend and the one I loved. I talked to them and told them that the one who texted me was the one I'm in love now. When I spoke those words, they both smiled and I just woke up..an hour before my alarm clock is scheduled to ring!
There was a major power interruption here in Quezon City due to a power plant breaking down. Trinoma's generator was caught on fire due to overload and all hell brakes loose.
