Bill Gates to Transition Away From Microsoft
Microsoft announced that Bill Gates will be making a transition away from Microsoft to spend more time on charatable work with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Gates has already relinquished the title of Chief Software Architect to former Chief Technical Officer Ray Ozzie and he plans to give up all of his other day to day responsibilities within the company by 2008. He will retain the title of Chairman and be involved with major decisions after that time.
This was a hard decision for me,” Gates added. “I’m very lucky to have two passions that I feel are so important and so challenging. As I prepare for this change, I firmly believe the road ahead for Microsoft is as bright as ever.”
CEO Steve Ballmer said Gates "is now headed, in my opinion, to become the greatest philanthropist of all time."
